  Sweden Cup

Every year Swedish Dart Federation organize Sweden Cup, it’s like Swedish Master for teams from local districts. This year it was 8 teams from 6 different districts. Stockholm had two teams and VDD (West coast of Sweden.) had also two teams. The other was Uppsala, Dalarna, Skåne and Götaland. It’s played like world cup with team, singles and pairs.

I played for Stockholm team 2. My team was Sven-Erik Lundberg, John Westerlund Ulf Hedin, Karin Fridlund, Pernilla Brodin and our superb coach Magnus Karlsson.

This year they started out with the singles and I played my darts almost perfect with my measurements. Still waiting for a 9 darter. I made it to the final after beating Daniel Larsson with 4-0 in the second round. In the semi-final I was up against my soon to be team-mate Rainier Maaninka and it was a real good game where he made like three errors in the hole game and I let him pay at once each time. Won the game with 4-3. Marcus Korhonen was the last man standing on the other side so it was me and him on stage. It became 3-3 and in the final leg he had 62 left and I 135, my throw, first red bull, 85 left and to my bad luck it bounces on the wire. I put the last one in and left 40. But I thought Markus was my friend but it turned out he wasn’t. Single 10, single 12 and of course double 20. Game set and match.

Felt like ……….but next time PAY BACK TIME. By the way he’s still my friend.

In the pairs I played with John Westerlund and we made it to the semifinal where Ronny Röhr and of course Rainer Maaninka wanted to beat us, they did. The lost in the final against Markus Korhonen/Kenneth Högwall. Well done Markus two gold in one day.

Team play on Sunday and the whole team played like a team it was real fun but lost against Stockholm team 1 who one the whole thing. Congratulations. We ended up joint third. It was a really fun weekend and thanks to everyone who made this to a great tournament.

  9-11 May 2008
  Hungerian Open

This weekend we, me and Ingela, went down to play Hungarian Open. We were there last year and had a wonderful time. Nice weather, nice people and fun tournament. We hoped for the same this year. This year they held the tournament closer to the City so we picked a hotel right between downtown Budapest and the arena were we was going to play darts. It took us about 20 minutes to both places to walk.

Friday night they started out with warm up singles, best of 5 legs. It was about 100 entries. I went all the way to final. I lost 0-3 against Cor Ernst from Holland.

Saturday it was best of 7 legs in the men’s single about 300 entries and I started out pretty good. Didn’t loose any legs until I was up last 32 and my opponent in that game was Johnny nIijs. We both played OK but I was defeated by 2-4. After that we went out for dinner and the food was excellent.

Sunday and time for pairs. Neither Ingela nor I had any booked partners when we left for Hungarian Open but on Saturday I hooked up with Ari Sissi from Finland and Ingela with Zsuzanna from Hungary. Me and Ari won a couple of rounds but lost against the winner in the pairs. Ingela and Zsuzanna lost against the winners in the first round.

Monday we had the day of just for sightseeing. Hopefully we will be back next year

  26-27 April 2008
  Malmö Open

It was time to go down south in Sweden to Malmö and play Malmö Open a Swedish ranking tournament. In the singles I lost against my double partner Dennis Nilsson in the quarter-final. Dennis made it all the way to the final, unfortunately he lost but he played really good.

Sunday and it was time to play men’s pairs and it feels so good to play with Dennis, he is so calm and steady and of course a really good dart player. We both played steady and we made it to the semi-final were we had a couple of doubles against us for the match in the fourth leg against Peter Eriksson and Ronny Röhr. But we got a chance and we took it an in the final leg it was no problem, we were in the final. Our opponents in the final were Daniel Larsson and Kenneth Högwall and there isn’t much to say they played better and they won 1-4. We take them next time.

  19-20 April 2008
  Spik Open

This weekend it was time to play a district ranking tournament, Spik Open. It was held at Stockholm’s Stadium, a beautiful arena. Started out on Saturday with men’s single. I played steady all the way to the final where I didn’t get it 100% so I lost 2-4 to Sven-Erik Lundberg who played really good and steady.

On the evening it was time to play mixed pairs and I was going to play with Ingela. We have started to play really good together, so that’s fun. This evening we rocked. We won all three matches in the pool. We continued to win the first match after the pool pretty comfortable and we were in the quarterfinal. Another win and suddenly we were in semi-final and in mixed normally we win one or two games and that’s it, so to be in the semi final together felt really good. Now we wanted it all and we made it to the final. One more game to be champion, and after a tight game against Grethel and Gunnar Glasö we won the final with 3-2. Felt so good to win with my darling Ingela.

  5-6 April 2008
  Luleå Open

Never been so high up in Sweden before but it was a Swedish ranking tournament so I had to go. I’m glad I did. I had a really good time. Nice people, good place for playing darts. But the best thing was that I won the men’s single. Won the semi-final against my double partner Dennis Nilsson with 4-3. We were not supposed to meet until the final, because he was seeded number 1 and I number 2. Lost my position in the pool game were I lost one game.

The final was played on stage and it was best of 9 legs. I started the first leg but I missed a 15 darter so my opponent Rainer Maanikka took it out on 15. Second leg I had 161 after 9 darts but he took it out on 12. Good darts but I was 2 down. It was time to change the game and I did. The next 4 legs were mine and I was in the lead 4-2. He got 4-3 before I ended the game with a 15 darter. I got 32 ranking points and I got a little closer to Winmau World Masters.

The men’s pairs we lost in the semi-final, not much to say about that.

Thanks to Olle W. who fixed our transport, we left Luleå in style got to ride an Imperial -62 to the airport. Thanks to the driver as well, (sorry forgot the name).

  29 Mars 2008
  Fawlty Open

It was time to visit Uppsala and play the tournament Fawlty Open. The event was held at Eklundshof. It started with Men’s pairs and I was going to play with a local guy Ove Swedén. We managed to go all the way to the final were I missed a 120 checkout in the final leg for the match. Daniel Larsson didn’t miss and he and his double partner Peter Eriksson took the title.

In the singles they started up with pool play and in the first match I played really good but my opponent played even better. I lost against Robert Gustavsson with 1-3. The next two games I won and I was thru to the playoffs. Now I started to play better and better and I was in the final against Daniel Larsson. It was payback time. We both played really good in a tight game but it was my turn to win. I won with 4-2.

Last happening was the mixed pairs which I played with my lovely Ingela. Unfortunately it didn’t become a third final, we lost in the semi-final so it was pretty close.

  25 Mars 2008
  Nordic cup

After a long time of struggling I’ve made it back to the national team. I’m going to represent Sweden in Nordic cup which will be played May 29 to June 1 2008. Feels so good. Last year I’ve played for the national team in two training matches against Finland, but this is the real deal.

The other players are on the men’s side: Daniel Larsson, Kennet Högvall, Magnus Caris, Markus Korhonen, Dennis Nilsson, Tommy Pihlblad and Oskar Lukasiak

The women are Maud Jansson, Grethel Glasö, Paulina Söderström and Pernilla Brodin

  21-22 Mars 2008
  Grand Prix 10 Chicken Cup

In the men’s pairs I played with John Westerlund we made it to the semi finals were we lost against Daniel von Essen/Kim Engström who both played really good.

Last years Chicken cup I won the men’s single so my plan was to keep the title. It started OK and I got passed my group. The game was getting better and better after each game. The best match was against Oskar Lukasiak last 16th, I won after a hard game with 3-2 threw three 180s. The next two matches I won with 4-1 and I was in the final. The opponent this final was Peter Sajwani and normally when we met we have really close games. It should have been that this time as well but he played good and I missed a couple of doubles to many so he got the title. I’ll will take it back next year.

  15-16 Mars 2008
  Swedish Masters

This years Swedish Masters I had high hopes unfortunately it didn’t go exactly as I had planned. I played OK and I made top 16 in the men’s single lost against Ulf Hedin.

In the mixed pairs I and my girlfriend Ingela played better than we hoped for. Our group was filled with top players. We started out by having a pass and then we met Tommy Pilblad/Anne Gustavsson and we won with 3-1. In the group final our opponents was Markus Korhonen/Maud Jansson both national team player for a couple of years. We won with 3-0 and we were in the quarterfinals. We didn’t win that match but we came joint 5th and were really glad about that.

Men’s pairs I played with my super dart partner Dennis Nilsson and we made it to the semi finals were we got beaten with 4-1 against Daniel Larsson/Kenneth Högwall who after that won the final.

  2-3 Mars 2008
  Finnish Open

Two years in a row I’ve made it to the finals in men’s pairs. In 2006 I played with Kenneth Högwall and we lost against Göran Klemme and Daniel Larsson also from Sweden with 3-0. In 2007 I had a new partner Dennis Nilsson and I told him that I would like to go further this year and he said but you made it to the finals last year and my answer was exactly. We made it all the way but we lost with 3-2 against Richard Bos and Remco van Eijden from Holland. This time we got a little bit closer, we took two legs.

This year I played with Dennis again and we had decided that this time we were going to win the men’s pairs. We played really good and once again we found ourselves ready to play the final in men’s pairs Finnish Open 2008. We started out by taking a lead with 2-0 and we had three darts for the match for a win with 3-1 but once again we saw us defeated with 3-2 (34,19,19,14,17), against Asko Niskalaa and Veli-Tuomas Hynynen from Finland.
